HENDERSON PETREL
Possibly the only photograph available of this endangered Pterodroma. Recently-split from Herald Petrel as the two colour morphs, light and dark, do not interbreed on Henderson and nearby islands - the 'dark' form now called Henderson Petrel P. atrata.

Note the slight build, delicate bill, no pale face freckling, the absence of pale primary shafts and amazingly black plumage (not brownish-black as in Kermadec Petrel). The feet webs are black in the very darkest Kermadec but always pinky-blotched in Henderson Petrels.
Photographed on Ducie Island (9 November 2003)
